General Information for arrival in Maastricht

Banking Facilities
An ATM machine is located at the main entrance / Level 1 of MECC Maastricht.

There is a guarded cloakroom on arrival on Monday and departure on Thursday
on Level 1.
There is no guarded cloakroom on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are coat
racks on Level 1 / Entrance Level.

Coffee and Lunch Breaks and Poster Session Nutrition
Catering during breaks is served in the exhibition area on Level 0 and Level 1.
The exhibition is located on Level 0 and Level 1. Lunch Boxes are available on
Tuesday and Wednesday. A special catering station for delegates with dietary
requirements is available on Level 0.

There is no lunch on Monday or Thursday. 

Lunch Options on Monday and Thursday:
There is a restaurant in the MECC Centre located on Level 0 (just around the
corner from the Conference Help Desk) and the Hotel NH next to the MECC has
an a-la-carte restaurant on the ground floor.
There are two coffee bars in 5 min walking distance. Bakery Cafe (Joseph
Bechlaan 100) and RIVAZZA Caffee/Lunch Bar in the UM Sports Building
(P. Debyeplein 15).

Conference Badges
All participants, accompanying persons and exhibitors must wear the
identification badges. Entrance to meeting halls, Exhibition area, catering
stations and to all social events will not be permitted to any person without a

The exhibition is located on Level 1 (Lobby) and Level 1 (Entrance/ Trajectum) next to the Poster boards and catering stations for coffee breaks and lunch boxes.

For any emergencies please note the Maastricht Hospital is located just across from the MECC Conference Centre. Please visit the conference help desk for assistance.
National emergency phone number is 112.
Lost and Found
The conference help desk will collect all lost and found objects.
MECC Maastricht has several different car parking areas which are within walking
distance of the entrance. Parking at MECC Maastricht is free for the first half hour.
After 30 minutes you pay € 3 per full hour, with a maximum of € 15 per 24 hours.
Posters can be found on Level 0 and Level 1. Posters are mounted for 1 1/2 days.
Posters change Tuesday evening after 18:30. Please check the poster plan in the
pocket programme to find the location and day of your poster(s).
Poster presenters: please check poster guidelines for instructions. For questions and
poster mounting material please contact the conference help desk. Poster sessions
are Tuesday and Wednesday from 17:00 – 18:30.
Smoking Policy
This will be a non-smoking event. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings and in all
restaurants in Maastricht, providing limited designated smoking areas.
Safety and Security
It is advisable that you do not leave bags or suitcases unattended at any time,
whether inside or outside the session halls.
Main toilets are located on Level 0
The MECC wi-fi is available free of charge for delegates in the conference
centre. Network : MECC Free WiFi (no Username and no Password required,
you only have to accept the terms and conditions). Please note : idle time is
60 minutes (which means you need to login again after 60 min). *Please bear with
us if you have trouble connecting to the wifi, as this may be due to the volume of
people and number of devices being used at the same time.


How many abstracts can I submit?
You can submit up to 4 abstracts on your profile.

When will I know if I get a Travel Award?
Abstract applicants are able to apply for travel awards. The committee will review the accepted abstracts and award the travel support to selected abstracts. You will only know if a travel award has been assigned by mid March 2019.

Is Abstract submission for poster or oral presentation?
Everyone has received confirmation if their submission is for oral presentation or poster presentation. Information if the poster presentation will be on Tuesday or Wednesday will be sent by mid March.

Can I submit an Abstract and register later?
You may submit an Abstract and/or apply for a travel award before confirming your Registration.

What will be published?

On the website we will publish, the abstract, your bio, name and University.

The abstract will be published by Karger prior to the conference. Following items will be published: Abstracts + Author information (first + last name / Organisation / City / Country)

  • Note all presenters must be registered and paid for their abstract to be published. Deadlines and information will be sent with information on acceptance of abstract.
  • Ensure spelling and grammar are correct, the submission will not be proofread.


What is the Poster size?
Guidelines for Poster Layout
Posters should be laid out in portrait style. The poster board surface is 95cm wide and 136cm high – make sure the poster fits into this surface. The poster number will be displayed at the top of the poster board.

Can I print my Poster in Maastricht?
Yes, following print shop is near by the MECC: https://www.postmastersexpress.nl/
It is about 15 min. with public transportation or 30 min. walking.

How do I make an accommodation booking?
I made a booking but I did not receive a confirmation email. Why?

Can I register for the early career rate (Student registration fee)?
MSc- and PhD Students, and postdoctoral fellows with less than 8 years postdoctoral experience are eligible for the early career registration rate. To confirm your PhD-student status a letter on University letter head from your head of department is required during the registration process, and/or a PDF of your PhD-degree.

Certificate of attendance
All participants will receive a digital certificate of attendance by email after the congress.

CME Credits
The conference is granted 16 European CME credits.
